Dainty Flair

D a i n t y   F l a i r.

Cèlia Querol is her name if, by any chance, you were wondering.

This photography display is the result of a spontaneous shoot I took of Cèlia one grey afternoon. Surprisingly enough, any kind of stage fright, apprehension or even trepidation were left behind as soon as I started shooting.
Shortly after, I realized Cèlia had enhanced a very assertive, dainty Flair -All at the same time- but, most importantly, she allowed me to capture her confidence and pride of being woman.

feminine flair

With a brush-stroke of black, a dash of rouge and a final touch of accuracy.
-simplicitie's essential ingredients.-

I adore (and therefore am truly inspired by) René Gruau's fashion illustrations. I care to mention him in this post as his drawings are not only a composition of lines, they are also a reflexion of femininity.
This comes to show that simplicity takes a matter of seconds in order to sketch.

This outlined profile is a the result of several impulsive brush-strokes,dominated by a black calligraphic line and a touch of colour. I find that the zest of colour adds somewhat of allure to these kind of drawings.

I remember drawing this after having got ready for a 'drinks-evening'.  Possibly as I was adding a tad of
perfume under my jaw line, maybe because I liked how my high pants enhanced my nipped in waist, or even because I had just slipped on my high-heels: I just felt so great to be a woman.

That is when I felt the need of (with a brush-stroke of black, a dash of rouge and a final touch of accuracy) depicting the simple fact of feeling feminine.

Burtonesque persona

Tim Burton style Portrait.

life is an incredible jumble of being funny and sad and dramatic and melodramatic and goofy and everything' Tim Burton

Although it might seem I am portraying Perky Clara's 'Dark side', these pictures aim to reflect the Tim Burton she enhances in her self being. This is anything but her dark side. Like two former angles of a triangle, Perky Clara has a complimentary side. However, you need no Synus/Consynus formula to figure Clara out.

Whilst the colliding and rythmic gestures, mingled jointly with her speaches  -like a choreography of words and physical motions- Make up a Tim Buton character; Her brisk personality keeps the gloomy side from showing. I'd even dare to say she has none.

In other words: a Perky Clara version of a Burtonesque persona.

Perky Clara

I Introduce Clara!

I was waiting for the right moment, and here it is.

I first met Clara when we both changed schools. The weird thing is Hanna had told me about some daughter of her mum’s friend who was going to go to the same school as I, and whose name was Clara. Coincidence? It’s even scary how close we’ve grown in barely two years.

This is one of the reasons why I sometimes doubt if there’s a predetermined or inevitable course of events which some call fate or destiny.  All I know is I couldn’t imagine these past two years without her. We’ve had our ups and downs (mostly ups, thank god!), shared ideas, discussed them, shared tears, gasps, laughs, jokes.... You know the sort that wouldn’t make any sense if I shared with someone else. But, most importantly, we (Clara, Lea and Me) made her dream come true: Paris.

I give you Clara's Jaunty, lively, confident, spirited, bright, bubbly, Perky Alter Ego.

Hope you like it!

Anything But Monochrome

Anything but Monochrome

By displaying the pictures of 'Impares' featured in the previous post, I am actually showing you my means of inspiration for these illustrations.

Contrast, ambiguity, Black, White, Black and White, attitude, dynamism. Alter Ego.

Impares

Impares.

Pioneer of street photography, Garry Winogrand inspired me when having to fulfil a school project. My idea was to document Barcelona’s (my home town) essence by taking pictures of its most intimate corners. However, one thing led to another, and ended up wanting Barcelona to be seen from an utterly different perspective.

Have you ever sat beside someone ( say.. in a bus for instance!) and imagined what their lives must be like?  ‘Impares’ (odds, as in: odd numbers) is the title I chose for my photographic report. My aim was to capture, spontaneously, individuals among crowded Barcelona.  Therein lays the relation with Garry Winogrand.  The purpose is sociologic. Therefore,  rather than focusing on the formal composition of each and every single picture, my aim was to take simple shots at whomever stood out amongst the masses of people.

On the other hand, the reason why I chose not to enhance a wide chromatic range, is because I find it leads me to represent the ambiguity of the unknown. Black and white, contrasts of light. Such details are the letters of a novel.

Let the pictures speak for themselves.

From me to you.

Eating nuts, going crackers and talking chopsticks.

I feel I'm entering a state of despair. Not only isn't my computer working properly (by properly meaning: not like a juke-box manner), but this week has been somewhat randomn. Actually, to such an extent where I thought Thursday was Wednesday and Wednesday was Friday. See what I mean? Anyhow, I have finally managed to sort some things out and am now getting down to preparing my next posts. I hope my delay can be excused!

By the way, I drew a scruffy edged portrait of myself this week. Hope you know what I meen when I say: Eating nuts, going crackers and talking chopsticks.
